The Mercedes Benz W111 began in 1959 as a direct replacement for the Pontoon A saloons. There were three 220 variants available: 220b/220Sb/220SEb. Nicknamed the Heckflosse (Fintail), the W111 220 featured small fins on the rear quarters which Mercedes Benz designer Friedrich Geiger stated were for parking assistance. The idea was that the fin was a visual aid for determining the position of the rear corner and side. Later, we can assume reluctantly, Geiger admitted that the fin was not a practical parking assist and Mercedes had included it to appeal to the American market during the time of the classic American fins.

This W111 is a brilliant example of one of Mercedes Benz most elegant sedans from a time where design was so important the practical Germans put form over function.

This car starts, runs, and stops as expected. If you want to own a piece of automotive history, have a classic you can daily drive, or want to purchase a great 220Sb to restore to concourse condition this is the perfect car for you.
