1949 Mercury Other Description

Just dug the car out of storage where it has sat for 12 years. Ready for someone to take this project and get her finished and on the road.

Body was removed from the frame and all needed panels were repaired/replaced (floor, trunk, inner and outer rockers, quarters, etc ). While at the shop the top was choppe, headlights frenched with 1952-54 headlight housings, emblems & door handles shaved, gas door filled, door and hood corners rounded, 1950 Pontiac style taillight housings frenched and ’51 style skirts added. The bottom of the car was sprayed in POR15 to keep the rust from ever coming back.

As for the frame, she was completely disassembled and powder coated gloss black. All new Jamco & Fatman Fabrications suspension components were powder coated gloss black and installed, along with the rear end housing. Suspension mods are as follows.

  • JAMCO 4” drop rear Deluxe Leaf kit

  • JAMCO HD rear sway bar (not yet installed)

  • JAMCO 3” drop front Coil Spring kit

  • JAMCO HD front sway bar

  • FATMAN front disc brake kit with dropped spindles & king pin kit

  • New steering components and A-Arm bushings & seals

  • Early ‘70’s Cougar Power steering gear box

  • Early ‘70’s Cougar 9” rear end (no center section)

  • Included are new rear drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, and hardware (not installed)

Engine and trans combo consists of a rebuilt early ‘70’s 460 CID (never fired) and a C6 trans (empty case for mock up purposes only).

Interior is from an early ‘60’s Galaxy 500XL with a GM tilt column from a 1967 Grand Prix

The back window is nice, but will need new rubber before installation. Only other glass with the car is the rear quarter windows (original glass … not too bad, could be used). Vehicle comes with window garnish moldings and some window stainless.

Included with the car is a brand new fuel tank and sending unit from Dennis Carpenter.

This is a project that can be completed fairly easily since most of the hard-work is done.

Solid Mercs are getting harder and harder to find.

Car is sold as is, where is, with no warranty. Buyer responsible for pickup/transportation.
