1960 Nash Metropolitan Description

Up for bids is a 1960 AMC Metropolitan coupe. Included in the sale are a spare 1500 engine, front clip, spare rear trunk lid and a few boxes of spare parts. It was first titled in 1962 but the build code indicates it was built in 1960. We found this in the basement of an old house where it was stored since 1982. The car appears to be complete except for a missing fuel pump and gas cap. The hydraulics for the brakes and clutch appear to be drained and don't work. It could be used as a parts car but would probably be better suited as a project car. According to the paint codes, this is an original yellow and white car. The paint is old and is cracking in some areas. It does appear that the vehicle had some of the lower sheet metal and braces under the door areas replaced many years ago along with a partial or full paint job. I base that upon the skim coat that I removed in several places with good solid steel showing underneath. The door bottoms are solid and I don't see any bondo patches on the body. Overall, the body has very little surface rust. Also, I have some of the missing exterior trim which will be included in the sale.
I don't know if the interior is original or not but it's in good condition for it's age and would look much better if it was cleaned up. The roof bows for the headliner are still there along with portions of the headliner material. I think the front floor pans have been patched and repaired at some point and are very solid. The floor under the rear of the passenger seat has some rust thru in it while the rest of the rear and the trunk are solid. I did find a small rust hole in the battery compartment.
The engine looks complete except for the missing fuel pump. I'm unable to turn it over by hand but soaking the cylinders in solvent may free it up but assume it will need to be rebuilt or replaced. The frame and the under neath of the car looks solid with minimal corrosion. We had to remove the muffler and part of the exhaust system to remove it from the basement but they will be included in the sale. The only problem I see under the car is that someone attempted to cut the cross member on each side of it ? Not sure why they did that since it's only bolted on. So you'll definitely need to replace that or weld up this one. The driver side rear tire was flat and the transmission stuck in gear so we had to winch it on the trailer. Since then, I've mounted the spare tire on it but have not tried rocking the car to see if it will come out of gear. Unless I update this, please assume that you will need a rollback truck or a trailer with a winch to load it.
The spare engine is a 1500 engine which won't turn by hand but one spark plug was missing so there's probably some corrosion inside that cylinder. Probably soaking all the cylinders will free it up. There's also a number boxes of spare parts, a rear trunk lid and a front clip that go with the car.
Feel free to contact me with questions or if you need any additional pictures of the car. Also contact me if you are close by and want to personally inspect the car. If you should win the auction, I can keep the car here until you can pick it up as long as it's paid in full. I can also assist you getting it loaded or I might be able to deliver it you for a fee, depending upon your location. I can also work with your shipping company in getting it loaded if you decide to go that route.
Thanks
