1946 Willys Description

For your consideration is my early column shift 1946 Willys CJ2A. The drivetrain is untouched from original, with some mystery wiring being the only modification I can see. It has a Ramsey 8000 pound winch with a dual stick PTO. Willys forums are all frothy about this particular PTO, so it must be a good one. This jeep has leaked a lot of gear lube and oil over the years, so the drivetrain and body underside is well preserved in a caked on goo. This has kept the tub structurallysound underneath, but it is still very rusty and would take a miracle to save. The originalHarvest Tan shows through in many areas. All the guages work except the speedometer which is disconnected at the transfer case. One headlight works most of the time. I have not been able to determineif it has brakes or just loses momentum when I push in the clutch. The column shift is tight and works well. The only issue I have found with the drivetrain, is the front drive shaft chucks around where it goes into the transfer case. The steering has a lot of play in it, but takes suggestions as to where to track. The gearing is something like 5.38 to 1, so road speed is about equivalent to a farm tractor with a healthy road gear. The canvas top is complete but very ripe. It would be great for patterns, or just drive with the top off like I intended. The engine runs well, but requires 3/4 choke. I have not been able to find a vacuum leak, so it might be an internal carb issue. I don't know why it has a fuel cell, but I would guess the tank has a lot of crud and plugs up fuel filters. The gauge says the under seat tank has gas in it, but it smells like turpentine, so it's pretty old fuel.Despite it's limitations, keep in mind this was a purpose built vehical engineered by The Greatest Generation, and is largelyresponsible for our first language being english. It has gear whine. It smells of grease and exhaust. It is everything it should be. I swear, I grow more chest hair every timeI drive it.It comes with the original dealer bill of sale from 1946 and a service manual in poor condition. The front of the manual covers the mechanicals, while the back pages cover plowing techniques, traction gradients, and crop rotation suggestions. It's a real hoot to read. The title is long gone. I will include a bill of sale along with the bill of sale from the fellow I bought it from.I can continue to store it indoors for a reasonable amount of time. Absolutelyno paypal. A bank check or cash always works well. Let me know if you have any questions or require more pictures, and thanks for looking.
